Lower excise on LED lights
The Finance Minister in his 2011 budget unveiled on February 28, 2011 has proposed a reduction in excise duty on LED bulbs. This could result in a price band of about Rs. 400 to 500 for an entry level LED light. The uptake of LED light in the Indian market has been slower than what the industry expected. One of the reasons attributed to this has been the higher prices of LED lights. Measures such as lower excise duties combined with lower cost of production as volumes grow, will hopefully lead to higher adoption rates of LED lights in the Indian market
